Sinner to Saint

I was a beggar, now I'm royalty.
There is no contrast more profound than the one between the life we lived and the life we inherited through Christ. Before the King reached down and lifted us out of the dust, we were all beggars.
We stood at the gate of the Kingdom, spiritually bankrupt, clad in the tattered rags of our own attempts at goodness. We were enslaved to a debt we could never repay, defined by our failures, and subject to the harsh, undeniable truth of Romans 3:23: "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."
Our pockets were empty. Our hope was fragile. Our identity was rooted in the transient, messy, and flawed world. The beggar’s life is marked by desperation, dependence on temporary charity, and a complete lack of permanent belonging. This was the spiritual inheritance of every person born apart from God—a life of poverty, separation, and the heavy burden of trying to earn what can only be freely given.
The Hand of Grace
But the story doesn’t end at the gate. It begins when the King, who is rich in mercy, sees the beggar, not for their filth, but for the potential of their soul.
This transformation is not a promotion earned through hard work; it is an adoption secured by the highest sacrifice. While we were still trapped in our poverty, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8). The price of our freedom—the debt of our sin—was paid in full on the cross.
At that moment of belief, a divine transaction takes place. Our old, beggar's identity is stripped away, and we are cloaked in the righteousness of Christ. We are not just pardoned; we are redefined. We are raised from the spiritual slum to the heavenly palace.
Now, We Are Royalty
Our new identity is not "reformed beggar," but "saint."
This word, saint, simply means "set apart." It means we are consecrated, purified, and given a new legal and spiritual status. We have moved from being strangers to being sons and daughters of the Almighty King.
1 Peter 2:9 gives us the clearest picture of this new status: “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.”
What does it mean to be royalty?
Inheritance: We are co-heirs with Christ (Romans 8:17). Everything that belongs to the King, we are entitled to share. This includes peace, authority, wisdom, and eternal life.
Access: We no longer wait outside the gates. We have direct, confident access to the Father’s throne room through Jesus (Hebrews 4:16).
Purpose: Our job is to represent the Kingdom. We are ambassadors of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:20), reflecting the light and love of the One who saved us.
The chains of our past life are broken. The identity of "sinner" has been replaced with the glorious, permanent title of "saint." Stop living like a beggar, clutching at temporary relief. You are clothed in glory, seated in heavenly places, and have full access to the abundance of the King. Walk in your royalty today.
