Back into Order

Have you ever looked at your life—your schedule, your thoughts, or even your kitchen table—and felt like you were drowning in a sea of "too much"?

We all experience seasons where the world feels loud, messy, and completely out of control. It’s easy to feel like the chaos is winning. But if we look back at the very beginning of the Story, we see that chaos isn't a sign of God’s absence; it’s actually the canvas for His greatest work.

1. The Voice in the Void

The Bible opens with a striking image in Genesis 1:2: “The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters.” In Hebrew, this state is called tohu wa-bohu—total chaos, wildness, and waste. It was the ultimate "mess." But notice what happens next: God doesn't walk away because it's too disorganized. Instead, His Spirit hovers over the surface, and He speaks.

The Lesson: God is not intimidated by your mess. He specializes in stepping into the "formless and empty" spaces of our lives and speaking light where there was only darkness.

2. Peace in the Middle of the Storm

Fast forward to the New Testament. The disciples are in a boat, and a literal storm is threatening to sink them. They are in a state of total panic—internal and external chaos.

When Jesus wakes up, He doesn't wait for the storm to run its course. He speaks to the wind and the waves: “Silence! Be still!” (Mark 4:39). Immediately, the chaos submits to His authority.

Order, in the biblical sense, isn't just about having a clean house or a perfect calendar. It’s about alignment. When we bring our chaos to Christ, He aligns our hearts with His peace, which "surpasses all understanding," even if the storm outside is still howling.

3. How to Invite Order Back In

How do we practically move from "chaos" back to "order" when we feel overwhelmed today?

 * Surrender the "Control" Myth: Most of our stress comes from trying to control things we were never meant to carry. Admitting "I can't do this on my own" is the first step toward God’s order.

 * Listen for the Word: Just as God spoke light into existence, His Word (the Bible) provides a framework for our lives. When life feels chaotic, go back to the Truths that don't change.

 * Focus on the "Next Right Step": In Genesis, God didn't create everything in a single second. He moved in stages—Day One, Day Two, Day Three. You don’t have to fix your whole life today. Just ask God for the "daily bread" of wisdom for the next hour.

Final Thought

Chaos is often just the "raw material" for a new creation. If your life feels formless or dark right now, take heart. The Creator of the universe is still in the business of bringing beauty out of the void. He isn't finished with your story yet.
