The Light that can't be HiddenPrayer

Drawing from the imagery in Matthew 5:14-16, this prayer focuses on the themes of authenticity, courage, and being a vessel for divine warmth in a dark world.

A Prayer for the Light That Can't Be Hidden

Divine Source of All Light,

Thank you for the spark you have placed within me. Help me to remember that I am not meant to be a flickering candle in a cellar, but a city set upon a hill that offers guidance to the weary traveler.

Grant me the courage to be seen. When fear whispers that I should stay quiet or blend into the shadows, remind me that your grace was never meant to be a secret. Remove the "bushel baskets" of doubt, shame, and people-pleasing that I often use to cover my true self.

Make me a steady flame. In moments of darkness, let my life reflect your compassion, justice, and peace. May my actions be so clear and my kindness so bright that others do not just see me, but feel the warmth of your presence through me.

Let my light be a homecoming. May I shine in a way that doesn’t blind or judge, but illuminates the path for others to find their own way back to you. Let my light give glory not to myself, but to the Love that lit the flame in the first place.

In Jesus' Name

Amen.

Reflection Quote

"No one lights a lamp and puts it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house."

— Matthew 5:15
