The Good News of Jesus

In a world often saturated with "breaking news" that leaves us anxious or weary, there is one message that has stood the test of two millennia—not just as a headline, but as a lifeline. We call it the Gospel, from the Greek word euangelion, which literally translates to "Good News."

But what makes this news so good? To understand the height of the Gospel, we must first look at the depth of our need.

The Problem: The Great Divide

The Bible tells a story of a world designed for harmony but fractured by rebellion. In Romans 3:23, the diagnosis is clear: "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." This isn't just about "making mistakes"; it’s about a fundamental disconnection from our Creator. Because God is perfectly holy and just, our "falling short" creates a debt we cannot pay and a distance we cannot bridge on our own efforts.

The Solution: The Word Made Flesh

The Good News starts with the fact that God did not leave us to our own devices. He entered history.

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." — John 3:16

Jesus Christ, being fully God and fully man, lived the perfect life we couldn't live. He then took the weight of our "falling short" upon Himself. On the cross, a divine exchange took place: He took our brokenness, and in return, He offers us His righteousness.

The Victory: An Empty Tomb

If the story ended at the cross, it would be a tragedy. But the Gospel is a shout of victory. Three days after His burial, Jesus rose from the dead, proving that sin and death no longer have the final word.

His resurrection is the guarantee that:

  • Forgiveness is real.

  • Death is defeated.

  • New life is possible right now.

How Do We Respond?

The Gospel is a gift, and like any gift, it must be received. It isn't earned through moral marathons or religious rituals. It is received through faith.

Term

Meaning in the Gospel Context

Repentance

A change of mind and direction; turning away from self-reliance toward God.

Grace

Getting what we don't deserve (mercy, love, and eternal life).

Faith

Trusting in the finished work of Jesus rather than our own performance.

The "Good News" for Today

The Gospel of Christ isn't just a ticket to heaven for the future; it is power for the present. It means you are loved more than you ever dared hope and accepted more than you ever dared imagine.

In Christ, your past is forgiven, your present has purpose, and your future is secure. That isn't just news—it’s the best news the world has ever heard.

"I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes." — Romans 1:16
