OMNI-ATTRIBUTES

The Spirit of God, often described as the divine Ruach—the very breath and power of the Creator—is the dynamic force that connects humanity to the divine. It is the intangible yet undeniable evidence of God's active presence in the world, moving, illuminating, and empowering all creation. This same Spirit, which hovered over the waters in Genesis and ignited the prophets with divine truth, dwells fully in Jesus Christ, making Him the perfect embodiment of God's nature. Understanding the Spirit's infinite capacity is the key to unlocking the majesty of Christ, for it is through this lens that we can truly appreciate the fullness of His divine omni-attributes: His absolute power, universal presence, and perfect knowledge.

This is a profound area of theology! The "omni-attributes" are key concepts used to describe the unlimited perfections of God, drawn from how He is revealed in the Bible.

The three primary omni-attributes are:

  • Omnipotence (All-Powerful)

  • Omniscience (All-Knowing)

  • Omnipresence (Everywhere Present)

Let's explore each one with its biblical context:

1.  Omnipotence (All-Powerful)

Definition: God possesses complete and total power over all things. He is able to do everything that is consistent with His nature.

  • Meaning in the Bible: God is the Almighty (El Shaddai) who created everything out of nothing and sustains all creation. Nothing is too difficult for Him.

  • Biblical Examples:

    • Creation: "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth." (Genesis 1:1) — Demonstrating power to bring all things into existence simply by speaking.

    • Assurance: "I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted." (Job 42:2)

    • Miracles: When Sarah laughed at the promise of a child in her old age, God asked, "Is anything too hard for the Lord?" (Genesis 18:14)

    • Salvation: Jesus said, "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible." (Matthew 19:26)

2.  Omniscience (All-Knowing)

Definition: God has perfect and complete knowledge of all things—past, present, and future, including all possibilities and the thoughts of every being.

  • Meaning in the Bible: God's knowledge is limitless. He knows not just the facts of the universe, but the deepest parts of the human heart.

  • Biblical Examples:

    • Comprehensive Knowledge: "Great is our Lord, and abundant in power; his understanding is beyond measure." (Psalm 147:5)

    • Intimate Knowledge: "O Lord, you have searched me and known me! You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar... Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O Lord, you know it altogether." (Psalm 139:1-4)

    • Knowledge of the Future: God declares, "I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me, declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, 'My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all my purpose.'" (Isaiah 46:9-10)

3.  Omnipresence (Everywhere Present)

Definition: God is fully present in all places at all times—He cannot be contained by space or distance.

  • Meaning in the Bible: God's presence fills heaven and earth, meaning no one can hide from Him, and believers are never truly alone.

  • Biblical Examples:

    • Uncontainable Presence: "Can a man hide himself in secret places so that I cannot see him? declares the Lord. Do I not fill heaven and earth? declares the Lord." (Jeremiah 23:24)

    • Inescapable Presence: "Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there!" (Psalm 139:7-8)

    • Immanuel (God With Us): The name Immanuel (Matthew 1:23) affirms the active, relational aspect of God's omnipresence, particularly through Jesus Christ.

These attributes are not isolated; they are aspects of God's one, unified nature, and they often intersect. For instance, God's omnipotence ensures His plan (known by His omniscience) will be accomplished, and He can execute that plan anywhere because of His omnipresence.

Would you like to dive deeper into one of these specific attributes, or perhaps look at the concept of Omnibenevolence (all-good/all-loving)?
