The Lost CoinPrayer

Finding the lost coin is a beautiful image of God’s persistent, meticulous love. Here is a prayer inspired by that parable from Luke 15:8–10.

A Prayer for the Diligent Search

Divine Searcher,

I come to you today acknowledging the times I feel like the lost coin—hidden in the dark corners, covered by the dust of the world, or feeling small and of little value.

Thank you that you do not write off what is missing. You do not settle for the nine coins you still have; you value the one that is gone.

 * Light your lamp in my heart: Shine into the shadowed places of my life where I have lost my way or my sense of worth.

 * Sweep the house: Do the hard work of clearing away the distractions and the debris that keep me from being found by you.

 * Search diligently: I am grateful that you never tire of looking for me, and that your grace is more persistent than my tendency to wander.

Help me also to have the heart of the woman in the story. Give me the patience to search for the "lost coins" in my own community—the forgotten, the lonely, and those who feel they have no value.

May I join in the Great Rejoicing, knowing that every soul found is a reason for the angels to dance.

In Jesu8s' Name

Amen.

Reflection from the Parable

"Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Doesn’t she light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.’" — Luke 15:8–9
