The Good SamaritanPrayer

Here is a prayer inspired by the Parable of the Good Samaritan, focusing on compassion, breaking down barriers, and active love.

A Prayer for a Neighborly Heart

Lord of All Compassion,

Thank you for the story of the Good Samaritan, which reminds us that your love knows no borders, no labels, and no limits. Open our eyes today to see the people we often pass by—those hidden in plain sight or sidelined by the world’s indifference.

Soften our hearts. When we are tempted to cross to the other side of the road out of business, fear, or prejudice, remind us that every person we meet is made in your image. Help us to see "the stranger" not as a threat or a burden, but as a neighbor.

Strengthen our hands. Give us the courage to stop, the mercy to kneel, and the generosity to share what we have. May we be willing to "waste" our time and resources for the sake of another’s healing, just as you have poured out your grace upon us.

Break down our walls. Teach us that being a neighbor is not about who lives next door, but about who we choose to show mercy to. Let our love be an active verb—one that binds up wounds and restores hope.

In every encounter, let us be the answer to someone’s prayer.

In Jesus' Name

Amen.

Reflection Quote

"Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?"

The expert in the law replied, "The one who had mercy on him."

Jesus told him, "Go and do likewise." (Luke 10:36-37)
