The Unjust Steward Prayer
The Parable of the Unjust Steward (Luke 16:1–13) is one of the more challenging stories in the New Testament. It calls us to use the resources of this world with the same foresight and diligence that a shrewd person uses to secure their future—but directed toward eternal things.
A Prayer for Prudent Stewardship
Lord of All Provision,
I come before You acknowledging that everything I possess—my time, my talents, and my treasures—is ultimately Yours. I am but a steward of Your grace, entrusted with these gifts for a short season.
Grant me the wisdom of the steward in Your parable. While he was worldly, he understood that his time was short and acted decisively. Help me to have that same sense of urgency for Your Kingdom. Shake me from my complacency and show me how to use the "dishonest wealth" of this world to invest in things that last forever.
Teach me to be:
* Shrewd yet innocent: Finding creative ways to do good and serve others with what I have.
* Generous in spirit: Using my resources to build bridges and welcome others into eternal dwellings.
* Faithful in the small: Remembering that my integrity in little things determines my readiness for much greater ones.
Lord, keep my heart undivided. I know that I cannot serve two masters. Help me to love You and use money, rather than loving money and using You. May my life be a testament to Your generosity, as I steward Your blessings with a view toward eternity.
In Jesus' Name
Amen.
Reflection Point
The core of this parable is often summarized in the verse: "He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much." It’s a reminder that our daily habits with our resources are actually training for our spiritual inheritance.
